Kashmiri Community Marches in Belgium Against Pakistani Army Atrocities in POK

Brussels, August 13: The Kashmiri community residing in Belgium has condemned the atrocities committed by the Pakistani army in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). They organized a protest march from the European Parliament to the United Nations office in the capital, Brussels.

On Wednesday, demonstrators chanted slogans against the Pakistani army, demanding international attention to human rights violations occurring in POK. These violations include the disruption of essential services and the brutal use of force against protesters. The demonstrators called for international intervention against the harsh actions taken by Pakistani authorities in POK.

Earlier this week, the Jammu and Kashmir Human Rights Observatory (JKHRO), a human rights documentation and monitoring organization based in POK, reported the deaths of 93 civilians during the rising unrest in the occupied region from June 5 to August 5.

Last week, thousands of Kashmiri expatriates held a protest march in Bologna, Italy, denouncing the brutality of the Pakistani army against peaceful protesters in POK. The demonstrators expressed solidarity with the civil society group, the Joint Action Committee (JAC), and demanded an end to operations by Pakistani security forces in the region.

The JAC stated on social media that Kashmiris in Italy staged a vigorous protest and appealed to the international community to raise their voices against the ‘massacre’ of unarmed civilians by the Pakistani army. They emphasized that peaceful protesters are merely demanding their basic rights.

Recently, several British MPs expressed deep concern over the brutality faced by civilians in POK during anti-government protests. Liam Byrne, a member of the British Labour Party, described reports of gunfire against peaceful protesters in POK as extremely alarming.

Another British MP, Adnan Hussain, referred to the killings of civilians in POK as a ‘tragedy’ and called for a full, independent, and transparent investigation into any excessive or unlawful use of force by Pakistani authorities.
