New Delhi, August 21: The Delhi Police have begun filing an FIR against unknown individuals concerning the pellet gun injury sustained by Sahil Lochav during the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) protest. Previously, the police stated they were reviewing the complaint to determine if a new case could be registered in accordance with Supreme Court directives.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP, visited the Parliament Street police station. He sought information and demanded the filing of an FIR regarding the alleged use of pellet guns during protests at Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place. Tensions escalated outside the police station, resulting in a heated exchange between Congress leaders and police officials.
In a conversation with reporters, Rahul Gandhi alleged that pellet guns were used on July 20 at Connaught Place. He claimed that Sahil sustained over 200 pellet injuries, with three pellets lodged in his eye. The report from AIIMS corroborated the presence of numerous pellets in his body.
Gandhi mentioned that he had visited a police station on Friday morning, only to be redirected to another station. He accused the authorities of harassing the victim instead of taking action on the complaint.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh clarified the party’s stance regarding Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the police station. He stated that Sahil’s lawyer insists on filing an FIR, which is not a standard complaint but a special FIR related to alleged police misconduct and the use of pellet guns. The Congress party has been demanding the FIR for an extended period, but their requests have yet to be acknowledged.
Ramesh noted that discussions are ongoing, and it is possible that the Home Secretary, Delhi Police Commissioner, and Home Minister have been consulted. However, the Congress party has not received any clear updates. Rahul Gandhi’s position remains firm: he will not leave the police station until the FIR is filed.
