Chennai, February 20: The Madras High Court has directed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department to register a case based on evidence provided by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding irregularities in appointments and tender processes within the Urban Administration Department.

The court believes there is prima facie evidence of misconduct in these processes.

The ED had previously written to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu, instructing action against Minister K.N. Nehru for alleged bribery related to appointments and irregularities in tender allocations within the Urban Administration Department.

In response to this letter, AIADMK MPs Inbadurai and Adinarayanan filed a petition in the High Court, seeking directives for case registration. The bench, comprising Chief Justice M.M. Shreevastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan, heard the petitions. During the proceedings, the ED indicated that evidence collected during another investigation had been forwarded to the DGP, warranting the registration of cases.

The Tamil Nadu government informed the court that the ED’s letter had been sent to the government, and instructions for an investigation by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department had already been issued. The department has been directed to register a case based on the evidence presented.

During the hearing, the judges noted that the ED had provided sufficient evidence, eliminating the need for a preliminary inquiry. Citing the substantial evidence in the letters issued by the ED, the High Court ordered the registration of cases, investigations, and appropriate legal actions as per the law.
