Bhopal, April 1: Three days after the brutal stabbing murder of 35-year-old businessman Vijay Mewada in the Ashok Garden area, the main suspect, Asif alias Bomb, remains at large.
Expressing strong dissatisfaction over the delay in arrests, Minister Vishwas Sarang has directed the Bhopal district administration and police to take stringent action, including demolishing all illegal structures associated with the murder suspects.
Late Tuesday night, Sarang met with the victim’s family and assured them that no criminal involved in this heinous act would be spared. He emphasized that strict legal action would be taken to deter future crimes of this nature.
The minister instructed police officials to launch a campaign to demolish the illegal structures owned by the suspects using bulldozers. In a gesture of support for the grieving family, Sarang announced that he would cover the entire educational expenses for the deceased’s two daughters.
Additionally, he declared the opening of a fixed deposit of ₹50,000 in the names of the victim’s minor daughters and assured the victim’s wife of employment opportunities.
The incident occurred on Monday night when Vijay Mewada was returning home after closing his tea shop in Kolar. After dropping off his employees in Pragati Nagar, he encountered local criminal Asif and his accomplices, Imran, Farmaan, and Kalu.
The suspects allegedly invited workers to a drinking party, which they declined, leading to a heated argument. When Vijay intervened and urged them to refrain from using foul language, the situation escalated. Asif reportedly stabbed Vijay eight times in the chest and abdomen.
Following the murder, family members and local residents protested in Subhash Nagar, demanding the arrest of the suspect. Members of several Hindu organizations also participated in demonstrations outside the Ashok Garden police station.
According to ACP Umesh Tiwari, within hours of the incident, two suspects, Imran and Farmaan, were arrested, while Asif remains at large. The police have announced a reward of ₹30,000 for information leading to his capture. It is reported that Asif has 25 criminal cases against him, including assault, robbery, attempted murder, theft, and extortion.
