New Delhi, June 17: The East District Cyber Police team in New Delhi has dismantled an organized cyber fraud ring that deceived individuals under the pretext of securing jobs abroad. Two suspects were arrested for luring unemployed youth and job seekers with false promises of employment in reputable Japanese companies.
According to police reports, the operation was initiated following a complaint from a victim who alleged that he was defrauded of ₹163,000 with the promise of a job in Japan. Upon receiving the complaint, an e-FIR was registered at the East District Cyber Police Station, and an investigation commenced.
The investigation revealed that the fraudsters posed as recruitment consultants and officials from foreign companies. They contacted job seekers, informing them that their resumes had been shortlisted for lucrative positions abroad. Subsequently, they coerced victims into paying various fees for document verification, visa processing, embassy clearance, attestation reports, and other formalities.
During the financial trail investigation, police discovered a bank account belonging to one of the suspects, Kush Bhatnagar, which contained a significant portion of the money sent by the victim. The financial inquiry also revealed that the funds were distributed across multiple accounts, including one belonging to co-accused Amit, who allegedly played a role in withdrawing and transferring the fraudulent amounts.
In the course of the investigation, police raided a location in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and apprehended both suspects. Interrogation and digital evidence confirmed that the duo was part of a larger cyber fraud network targeting job seekers across the country.
Authorities seized mobile phones, SIM cards, recruitment-related email accounts, information from online portals, WhatsApp chats, and other digital evidence from the suspects. These were used to send fake job offers under the guise of foreign companies.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kush Bhatnagar (22) and Amit (23), both residents of the C.B. Ganj area in Bareilly. According to police records, neither suspect had any prior criminal history.
