Lurinjyoti Gogoi Responds Firmly to Congress Workers Allegations in Assam

Guwahati, March 8: Lurinjyoti Gogoi, President of the Assam Ethnic Council, has strongly reacted to allegations made by some Congress workers who labeled him as an ‘outsider leader’ and ‘unpopular leader.’ He stated that such comments are not only baseless but also disrespectful to the people of Assam.

It is noteworthy that the Congress party’s state and central leadership has nearly finalized a seat-sharing formula with Gogoi’s regional party. However, a faction of Congress workers continues to target the AJP leader.

Speaking to reporters, Gogoi questioned the rationale behind the accusations, asserting that calling any person from Assam an outsider within the state is illogical and insulting.

He posed the question: Can anyone from Assam truly be considered an outsider in Assam? He further emphasized that such remarks go beyond personal criticism and insult the collective sentiments and identity of the Assamese people.

This controversy arose when some Congress-affiliated leaders reportedly referred to Gogoi as an outsider leader. The situation escalated when a group of Congress workers allegedly burned his effigy during a protest.

In response to this incident, the AJP leader expressed no regret over the protests, believing that such acts reflect a gross disregard for the sentiments of the Assamese people.

Gogoi remarked, “They did not burn my effigy; they have hurt the feelings of the people of Assam.” He added that the public would ultimately respond to such actions in their own way.

Amidst the political turmoil, Gogoi also stressed the urgent need for opposition unity in the state ahead of the upcoming elections. He highlighted the importance of a strong opposition front, stating that cooperation among anti-BJP forces is essential to present an effective political challenge.
