New Delhi, February 21: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva inaugurated Brazil’s first trade office, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex), in New Delhi on Saturday.

In a social media post, President Lula stated, “This agency aims to promote Brazilian products and services abroad and attract foreign investment in strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy.”

He highlighted that “Brazil and India are two major countries of the Global South. In 2025, our trade reached 15.2 billion USD, with significant potential for further growth.” The inauguration was attended by several ministers and Apex President Jorge Viana.

President Lula is on a high-level state visit to India this week, accompanied by the largest business delegation from Brazil to date, which includes over 260 companies, nearly 14 cabinet ministers, and several top CEOs.

This visit comes at a time when global trade is experiencing shifts due to tariff measures imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. In this context, India and Brazil are working to strengthen their trade and economic ties.

President Lula also participated in the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi, where he shared insights on the role of artificial intelligence in technology, digital public infrastructure, and inclusive development. This has introduced a new dimension of technological cooperation in Brazil-India relations.

On February 21, President Lula will engage in extensive bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations.

The discussions will cover topics such as trade, investment, energy, defense cooperation, digital technology, and people-to-people connections. Additionally, both leaders will address cooperation in multilateral forums, reforms in global governance, and issues related to the Global South.

Brazil and India established a strategic partnership in 2006, based on shared democratic values and a common vision for inclusive development. This relationship has strengthened over time.

Both countries have maintained close cooperation in multilateral forums such as BRICS, IBSA, G20, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and UNESCO.

President Lula’s visit is seen as a significant step in revitalizing economic cooperation between India and Brazil amid the ongoing restructuring of global supply chains.
