Love Like Poison: Trailer for I Will Return Released, Capturing the Pain of Unfulfilled Love

Mumbai, May 19: Director Imtiaz Ali is known for exploring relationships, unfulfilled love, and the emotional aspects of life in his films. His upcoming movie, ‘I Will Return,’ promises to deliver a similar narrative. The trailer has been released and is receiving a warm reception from audiences.

The film features prominent actors such as Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari Wagh in key roles. Each character in the trailer embodies deep pain and an incomplete story. The film attempts to portray the depth of human relationships in a contemporary style.

The trailer opens during the time of partition, showcasing Naseeruddin Shah’s character, who lives in the agony of his unfulfilled love story and is counting his last breaths. He wishes to share his love story with his grandson, played by Diljit, but no one seems to understand him. The narrative transitions into a flashback, illustrating this love story across the border. Vedang Raina portrays Naseeruddin’s younger self, while Sharvari Wagh plays his love interest.

In the trailer, Diljit expresses a desire to bring their unfinished love story to light. It features powerful dialogues, including, “Love is like poison; if even a drop remains inside, it won’t let you die peacefully in the end.”

The film reunites the famous trio of Imtiaz Ali, composer A.R. Rahman, and lyricist Irshad Kamil, who have previously collaborated on many memorable songs and films.

During the trailer launch, Imtiaz Ali spoke candidly about the film. He described ‘I Will Return’ as a story that illustrates the emotions of love and waiting. It reflects the heart of a person who has preserved their love and memories even 78 years after the partition of the country. This film is not just one individual’s story but a glimpse into the emotions of countless people who witnessed the pain of India’s partition.

Imtiaz Ali shared, “I have heard many stories from elders about the time of partition. I have tried to depict those experiences and emotions in this film. It aims to view the sentiments of the past through a contemporary lens. Working on this story has been a special experience for me, and I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to create such a film.”

The film is produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment in collaboration with Mohit Chaudhary and Window Seat Films.

‘I Will Return’ is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.
