LG Manoj Sinha Inspects Preparations for Amarnath Yatra in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 18: Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, visited the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board’s pilgrim residence at Pantha Chowk in Srinagar on Monday to assess the ongoing construction and preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

According to an official statement, the Lieutenant Governor reviewed the construction work and facilities being provided for the pilgrims. He instructed officials to expedite the pending tasks to ensure completion before the commencement of the Amarnath Yatra.

Sinha also evaluated the preparations for a sound and light show dedicated to Baba Barfani.

Present during the inspection were several senior officials, including Mandeep K. Bhandari, CEO of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, board member Mukesh Garg, DIG Rajeev Pandey from the Central Kashmir Range, Senior Superintendent of Police G.V. Sandeep Chakravarty, and Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo of Srinagar.

This year’s Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan, after a duration of 57 days.

The Amarnath cave, located at an altitude of approximately 8,880 meters, features a naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam, which changes shape with the waxing and waning of the moon. Pilgrims consider it a symbol of Lord Shiva’s divine power.

Devotees can reach the Amarnath cave via the traditional long Pahalgam route or the shorter Baltal route. The Pahalgam route takes about four days to reach the cave, while those taking the Baltal route can return to the base camp on the same day after their visit.

Helicopter services are also available for pilgrims from both the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps.

Local residents play a crucial role in the success of the pilgrimage by providing horses, palanquins, and other assistance to the travelers.

Every year, the administration makes extensive arrangements for safety, accommodation, and health facilities for pilgrims arriving from across the country and abroad.
