
Banswara. A major wildlife incident occurred on Sunday morning in Hirji Daida village under Kalinjara police station area of Banswara. A leopard suddenly attacked a minor boy who was warming himself near a fire outside his home. The attack created panic inside the house. When family members rushed to save him, the leopard fled into a nearby house. The villagers immediately locked the door, trapping the animal inside.
Before the forest department rescue team could start their operation, the leopard vomited inside the room and died under suspicious circumstances. Several questions have arisen regarding the leopard’s death, which will be clarified after the post-mortem report.
How the Incident Happened?
Fifteen-year-old Shantilal, son of Meetha Lal Maida, was warming himself near a fire outside the house at around 8 am. Suddenly, a leopard emerged quickly from the bushes and attacked him.
• Hearing his screams, family members ran towards the scene.
• The leopard ran into a nearby house.
• The villagers wisely locked the door from outside to contain the animal.
Condition of the Injured Minor
Shantilal was taken to Banswara District Hospital in serious condition.
• He had deep claw wounds on his hand and back.
• Several stitches were required.
His treatment is currently ongoing.
Suspicious Death of the Leopard — Vomiting, Foam, Then Collapse
According to DFO Abhishek Sharma—
• When the team arrived, the leopard was visibly unwell.
• Before rescue efforts began, the leopard vomited inside the room.
• After some time, it collapsed and died.
• No injury marks were found on its body.
The leopard’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Struggled for Two Hours Before Becoming Calm
Regional Forest Officer Suresh Garasiya stated—
The leopard kept growling and struggling to get out of the room.
By around 10 am, it sat down in despair.
After some time, foam appeared at its mouth, followed by vomiting, and then it collapsed.
The rescue team arrived only to find the animal already dead.
Preliminary Post-Mortem Findings — Empty Stomach, Blood in Lungs
Dr. Rajesh Navade, part of the post-mortem team, said—
• The leopard’s stomach was completely empty.
• Signs of blood accumulation were found in the lungs.
Initial impressions suggest death due to starvation, but the exact cause will be known after the full report.
Questions Raised by the Incident
• Was the leopard already unwell?
• Did it enter the village weakened by hunger?
• Did stress from being trapped cause its death?
The forest department is investigating all these possibilities.
