
New Delhi, April 8: On the death anniversary of the esteemed writer and creator of ‘Vande Mataram’, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, leaders across the nation paid their respects. Amit Shah, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Yogi Adityanath, among others, honored his literary contributions and emphasized that ‘Vande Mataram’ symbolizes Indian unity and pride.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his tribute on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “On the death anniversary of the great patriot and nationalist writer Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, I pay my humble respects. Bankim Babu played an unforgettable role in awakening the Indian self-esteem, wounded by Mughal invaders and British rulers. Through ‘Vande Mataram’, he gave a voice of unity to the freedom struggle, which was divided by language, region, and province.”
He further added, “By bringing the vast form of Mother India to life through ‘Anand Math’, Bankim Babu inspired the youth to protect their freedom and homeland. This nation, this civilization, and this great culture will remain indebted to him for eternity.”
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also paid tribute, stating, “Bankim Ji awakened national sentiment through his writings and instilled unwavering love for the motherland in the hearts of Indians. His works, which inspire a sense of national pride, continue to resonate today. On his death anniversary, I bow in reverence at his feet.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remarked, “On the death anniversary of the pioneer of Indian nationalism and the creator of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, I offer my humble tribute. His writings awakened the spirit of freedom in the oppressed India. Through ‘Vande Mataram’, he gave voice to patriotism that resonates in the hearts of every Indian with pride, inspiration, and national sentiment. I salute his immortal creativity and national consciousness.”
The Chief Minister of Rajasthan also honored Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, stating in a post on ‘X’, “His timeless works not only enriched Indian literature but also ignited the flame of patriotism in the hearts of millions during the freedom struggle. ‘Vande Mataram’ continues to inspire us with unwavering love and dedication to our motherland.”
Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also paid tribute, writing, “The pride of the nation, Bankim Babu, awakened the spirit of nationalism and self-esteem in the Indian populace through his writings. His literature provided ideological and cultural direction to the country, which remains a source of inspiration for all of us. The personality and works of this unique literary figure and devoted worshipper of Mother India will be revered for ages.”
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami noted, “During the freedom struggle, he gave voice to national consciousness through his writings. The novel ‘Anand Math’, created by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, is not just a literary work but a living document of emotions and struggles.”
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini remarked in a post on ‘X’, “On the death anniversary of the great poet and creator of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, I bow in reverence. His exceptional works, steeped in patriotism, will always inspire us to serve the nation.”
