Indore, April 9: A shocking incident has emerged from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where a one-year-old child had a live fish lodged in his throat, causing bleeding from the mouth. Doctors successfully removed the fish during an operation.
The incident occurred at MY Hospital, where the child was admitted on April 3 after complaints of crying and bleeding from the mouth. Upon examination, doctors discovered the unexpected cause of the child’s distress.
During the investigation, it was revealed that a live fish was stuck in the child’s throat. The fish was still alive, and its thrashing was causing injuries, which led to the bleeding.
Dr. Yamini Gupta, head of the ENT department in Indore, explained that the child was experiencing difficulty breathing due to the lodged fish, which raised significant concern among the family.
She noted that the fish was still flailing during the examination. The medical team promptly took the child to the operating theater, where the fish was extracted. This is reportedly the first case of its kind in Central India, and such incidents are extremely rare in children of this age.
Doctors indicated that without timely intervention, the child could have faced fatal consequences. The family had an aquarium at home containing various fish. While cleaning the aquarium, they caught larger fish but inadvertently brought a smaller one near the child.
It was reported that when the fish was brought close to the child’s mouth, he began to laugh. In that moment, the fish slipped from their hands and entered the child’s mouth. According to the doctor, a team of five to six doctors performed the operation. The child is now healthy, able to eat and drink, and has been discharged from the hospital.
