Odisha Vigilance Raids Properties Linked to Senior Engineer Amid Corruption Allegations

Bhubaneswar, April 9: In a continued crackdown on corrupt government officials, the Odisha Vigilance Department conducted simultaneous raids on properties associated with a senior officer from the Water Resources Department on Wednesday.

The officer is accused of accumulating assets beyond his known sources of income, and the raids uncovered a significant amount of property.

According to Vigilance sources, “On allegations of possessing assets far exceeding known income sources, simultaneous searches were conducted at six locations linked to Rajesh Chandra Mohanty, the Additional Chief Engineer of Odisha’s Dam Safety Department, in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal districts.”

The raids targeted six locations, including a three-story residential building in the Baramunda Housing Board Colony in Bhubaneswar, his ancestral home in Kolhasingh village under the Badachana police station in Jajpur district, a relative’s house in Jubilee Town, Dhenkanal, his office as Additional Chief Engineer in Bhubaneswar, a two-story building and farmhouse in Bimbol, Bhapur, Dhenkanal, and a colleague’s residence in Nayabazar under the Chauliaganj police station in Cuttack district.

A total of six teams from the Odisha Vigilance, led by an Additional Superintendent of Police, 11 Deputy Superintendents, nine Inspectors, eight Assistant Sub-Inspectors, and other supporting staff, conducted the searches based on a warrant issued by the Special Judge (Vigilance) Court in Cuttack.

During the searches, the Vigilance team discovered assets worth millions, including a luxurious multi-story building in Bhubaneswar, a farmhouse spanning 1.71 acres with a two-story structure, eight valuable plots (including one each in Kaling Nagar, Bhubaneswar, and Jajpur, and six in Bhapur, Dhenkanal), over ₹1.70 crore in deposits, ₹6.23 lakh in cash, 350 grams of gold jewelry, and two four-wheeled vehicles.

Vigilance officials are interrogating Mohanty to trace the sources of these assets, and it is likely that more properties may come to light, potentially increasing the total asset value.
