Hyderabad, April 9: K.T. Rama Rao, the executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), met with former minister Jivan Reddy on Thursday, extending an invitation for him to join the party. Reddy recently resigned from the Congress party.
Rama Rao visited Reddy’s residence in Jagitial on behalf of party president K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), accompanied by several party leaders and representatives.
Speaking to the media, KTR stated that Jivan Reddy responded positively to the invitation. He acknowledged Reddy’s long-standing personal connection with KCR and expressed happiness over the meeting. Reddy mentioned that he would soon meet KCR and make a decision within a couple of days.
KTR emphasized the necessity of KCR’s return as Chief Minister to restore stability and prosperity for the state’s farmers and the poor. He noted the urgent need for experienced leaders like Jivan Reddy to get Telangana’s development back on track.
Reflecting on Reddy’s political journey, KTR highlighted his dedicated service to the Congress party for over four decades. He recalled that KCR had invited Reddy to join BRS before the 2014 elections, but Reddy chose to remain loyal to Congress at that time.
KTR elaborated on the deep personal relationship between KCR and Jivan Reddy, built on mutual respect over four decades. He mentioned that during KCR’s first official visit to Karimnagar as Chief Minister in 2014, he promptly approved development projects requested by Reddy, despite Reddy being in the opposition at that time. This demonstrated KCR’s political acumen beyond party lines.
KTR also acknowledged Reddy’s strong advocacy for farmers in the assembly and his ongoing fight on issues like ‘Nizam Sugars.’ He reminded that KCR had even offered Reddy full support to restart the sugar mill under a cooperative model inspired by Maharashtra, which would include financial assistance and leadership responsibilities for Reddy.
KTR thanked the Jagitial district leadership for actively supporting this initiative and inviting Jivan Reddy to join the party. He praised their commitment to strengthening the party and working towards bringing BRS back to power, asserting that Reddy’s inclusion would significantly bolster the party.
KTR launched a strong attack on the Congress government, claiming it has failed in governance over the past two and a half years and resorts to distraction tactics to hide its failures.
He accused the government of withholding farmers’ payments under the ‘Rythu Bandhu’ scheme three times, resulting in an outstanding debt of ₹27,000 crores, while misleading farmers under the guise of loan waivers. This has led to significant anger among the farming community.
KTR condemned comments made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, labeling them inappropriate and unbecoming for someone in the highest office of the state. He accused the Chief Minister of using language that disrespects women’s dignity and contradicts Telangana’s cultural values.
He also accused the government of betraying the youth by failing to deliver on its promise of two lakh jobs, which has increased frustration and anger among unemployed youth.
KTR pointed out that none of the six promises (guarantees) made by the Congress party have been fully implemented. He accused the party leadership of deceiving the public despite claiming to have complete knowledge of the state’s economic situation before the elections.
He noted growing discontent within the Congress party, with even party workers expressing a desire to see BRS back in power. He accused the Congress leadership of disrespecting its senior leaders and undermining their self-esteem.
Jivan Reddy expressed gratitude to KTR for visiting his home and extending the invitation from KCR to join BRS. He stated that resigning from Congress was an emotional decision for him, but he is very happy to join BRS.
Reddy mentioned that he has endured significant humiliation over the past 20 months with great patience. He believes that after observing several governments, the current administration is heading in the wrong direction. He stated that his decision is based on public sentiment and expressed joy at the opportunity to work under KCR’s leadership.
