KL Rahuls Experience Crucial for Indias Transition, Says Aakash Chopra

New Delhi, June 4: Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that KL Rahul is at a pivotal stage in his Test career. As an experienced batsman, he should lead India’s batting lineup.

Ahead of the single Test match against Afghanistan starting June 6, Aakash emphasized that Rahul’s experience and consistency will be vital for the team’s success during this transitional phase.

In an interview with JioCinema, Aakash stated, “KL Rahul’s Test career has now reached its peak. He is no longer a young player and has been part of the team for quite some time. We have seen him succeed in Test cricket, especially in foreign conditions. He has been one of India’s better opening batsmen in the longest format.”

Rahul has been appointed as the vice-captain for the upcoming Test against Afghanistan. Chopra believes this move reflects the team’s confidence in Rahul’s ability to take on more responsibility. He added, “Promoting him to be Shubman Gill’s deputy is a significant responsibility, especially as the team undergoes changes. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring, India needs a batsman like KL Rahul to firmly establish himself in the top order.”

Chopra noted that Rahul has already made a name for himself as a prolific run-scorer in this format, but the challenge now is to maintain that standard over time. “He has scored a lot of runs, but the key is to sustain that form and consistency for the long haul. The opening slot in Test cricket isn’t as crowded as it is in white-ball cricket. There are contenders, but not too many. This makes Rahul’s role even more crucial. India will need him to guide young players and set an example.”
