New Delhi, June 4: Team India has suffered a significant blow. Virat Kohli will not participate in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The series is set to begin on June 13.
According to several media reports, Kohli is struggling with a hamstring injury, which will prevent him from playing in the series. It remains unclear when and where he sustained this injury. However, it is believed that he was injured during the IPL 2026 final match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday.
Kohli’s absence is considered a double setback for the Indian team. Notably, Rohit Sharma is also dealing with an injury, and his participation in the ODI series is uncertain. Both Rohit and Hardik Pandya have been included in the ODI squad, but they will need to pass fitness tests.
The first match of the ODI series is scheduled to take place in Dharamshala on June 13. The second match will be held in Lucknow on June 17, while the third and final match will be hosted at the MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium in Chennai on June 20.
In IPL 2026, Virat Kohli had an outstanding performance with the bat. He ranked fourth among the highest run-scorers of the tournament, amassing 675 runs at a strike rate of 165 across 16 matches. Kohli played a crucial role in leading RCB to victory.
In the final against Gujarat Titans, Kohli delivered an impressive innings, scoring 75 runs off just 42 balls, remaining not out. He also achieved the fastest fifty of his IPL career in just 25 balls, hitting a six to secure back-to-back championships for RCB.
