Vaibhav Suryavanshis Inclusion in T20 Team Challenged by Aakash Chopra

New Delhi, June 4: Following an impressive performance in IPL 2026, the call for 15-year-old batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi to join the Indian T20 International team has intensified. However, former cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that it is currently difficult for Vaibhav to secure a spot in the T20 lineup.

In a video shared on the social media platform ‘X’, Chopra explained that with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma already in the squad, it would be challenging for Vaibhav to find a place in the Indian T20 team. He noted that Samson had an outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, earning the title of ‘Player of the Tournament’. Thus, bringing Vaibhav in for Samson would not be appropriate.

Chopra also highlighted that Abhishek Sharma has been consistently excelling in the shortest format of cricket. Abhishek has maintained his position as the world’s number one T20 batsman for an extended period. This is another reason why it would not be right to give Vaibhav a chance in the team at this time.

While acknowledging that Vaibhav is a talented and remarkable batsman, Chopra stated that the young player will need to wait a bit longer for his opportunity in the Indian T20 team.

It is noteworthy that Vaibhav has been included in the Indian squad for the upcoming triangular series in Sri Lanka, which starts on June 9, with the final match scheduled for June 21. It will be interesting to see how Vaibhav performs in this series.

In IPL 2026, Vaibhav showcased his batting prowess, scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of 237 across 16 matches. He became the youngest player to win the Orange Cap. His remarkable batting in the Eliminator and the second qualifier was a highlight. Vaibhav broke Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a season, hitting a total of 72 sixes during IPL 2026.
