Deadly Attack on Police Checkpoint in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Claims Seven Lives

Islamabad, July 30: The situation in Pakistan-administered Kashmir remains dire. Recently, police reported that a group of terrorists attacked a police checkpoint in the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The assault resulted in the deaths of at least seven police officers and left 22 others injured.

According to a report by the Xinhua News Agency, District Police Officer Tariq Habib informed local media late Wednesday night that security forces retaliated, killing eight terrorists and injuring six more.

Authorities stated that a clearance operation is ongoing in the area to eliminate any remaining terrorists. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This incident comes at a time when security forces in Pakistan have been increasingly targeted by terrorists, resulting in numerous casualties. Just days earlier, on July 23, a suicide attack occurred at a security post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, claiming the lives of at least 14 individuals, including security personnel and a forestry department officer.

Sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed to Xinhua that the attack took place at a security post in the Tank district. A suicide bomber in a vehicle detonated explosives, leading to significant casualties and damage.

Among the deceased were nine soldiers, four police officers, and one provincial forestry department official. The blast also injured at least 24 individuals, including 20 soldiers and four police officers, who were subsequently hospitalized.

Following the explosion, the post collapsed, prompting rescue teams to initiate a search operation to retrieve trapped individuals. There are concerns that three soldiers may be trapped under the rubble.

Later, during the clearance operation, security forces reportedly killed three militants in the surrounding area.

On July 25, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, announced that forces had thwarted an attack on a checkpoint in the northwestern South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They stated that attackers attempted to assault the checkpoint using an explosives-laden vehicle, but security personnel destroyed the vehicle before it could reach the post, preventing any casualties.
