Jaipur: Kirori Lal Meena, Minister in the Rajasthan Government, has sharply criticised Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP, accusing him of making anti-national statements while abroad. The minister’s comments come amid calls by Jagatguru Rambhadracharya to remove Rahul Gandhi from his position as Leader of Opposition.
Speaking from Jaipur, Minister Meena stated that there is no doubt Rahul Gandhi damages India’s image by raising overly sensitive national issues unnecessarily during his foreign visits. He highlighted Gandhi’s meetings with the Chinese ambassador, noting the hostile stance China holds against India. According to Meena, such actions and statements made abroad are inappropriate and harmful to the nation’s interests.
Meena emphasised the significant responsibilities of the Leader of Opposition, accusing Rahul Gandhi of failing to fulfil them properly. He supported Rambhadracharya’s advice, adding that statements should be made within the bounds of respect and dignity.
Addressing the controversial slogans raised on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus, the minister called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a patriot and condemned the anti-national slogans targeting him. He stated that such behaviour is unacceptable and that anti-India elements on the JNU campus oppose the country’s values. Meena urged action to change or eliminate this mindset through cultural reform or legal means.
Regarding West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Kirori Lal Meena said that while democratic protest is acceptable, it must not be undemocratic. He criticised Banerjee for personally intervening during the Enforcement Directorate’s actions under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Meena asserted that Banerjee should have cooperated with the investigation instead of crossing limits that are unexpected from a leader of her stature.
He further accused Mamata Banerjee of presenting documents related to corruption and black money without addressing her own mistakes, calling this behaviour a mockery of democracy.
