Kiren Bedi Advocates for Womens Participation in Policy Making

New Delhi, April 7: The discussion around the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam) is gaining momentum across the country, with various political and administrative figures weighing in. Retired IPS officer and former Lieutenant Governor Kiren Bedi expressed her views on the bill’s implications, stating that increased participation of women will strengthen grassroots understanding and perspectives in governance and policy-making.

In an interview with a news agency, she noted that an increase in the number of women seats in the Lok Sabha would allow for a broader understanding of societal needs. This change would not only enhance women’s participation but also foster a sense of security among them, promoting balanced development in society.

Meanwhile, Aparna Yadav, Vice Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative on this issue. She remarked that the government’s priority is evident in passing the Women’s Reservation Bill as the first order of business after the formation of the new Parliament.

According to her, the decision to allocate 33 percent reservation for women is historic, and the discussions in Parliament will be crucial. Aparna Yadav emphasized that her party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, believes in fulfilling promises rather than just making them.

Reflecting on her political journey, Aparna expressed pride in being associated with the BJP, stating that the organization is dedicated to serving the nation and continuously working to awaken the country’s consciousness.

Rakhi Rathore, President of the Rajasthan BJP Women’s Wing, also supported the Women’s Reservation Bill, calling it a significant step towards women’s empowerment. She believes this will increase women’s representation in Parliament and provide them with opportunities to play an active role in policy-making.

In this context, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Renu Devi, underscored the bill’s importance. She stated that if there are 273 women MPs in Parliament, policies and decisions will be made with women’s interests in mind.

She urged all political parties to cooperate in the special session called by Prime Minister Modi and contribute to passing this bill. Additionally, she criticized the opposition, particularly the UPA, for avoiding participation in this crucial issue related to women’s empowerment.
