Kathmandu, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : India has dispatched essential relief and rescue supplies to Nepal, including tunnel rescue and forensic equipment. These materials were handed over to Mahabir Pun, Nepal’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, on Wednesday.
Naveen Srivastava, India’s ambassador to Nepal, announced the arrival of the eighth Indian flight carrying these supplies via the social media platform X. He emphasized the importance of this humanitarian aid in the wake of the recent flash floods that have affected Nepal.
Since August 26, India has accelerated the supply of relief materials, equipment, and expert personnel to Nepal through eight special flights. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that it continues to provide humanitarian assistance to support ongoing rescue and relief operations in the country.
In total, over 130 tons of relief supplies have been sent, along with the deployment of 54 specialist personnel from India. The supplies include standard items such as temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, and medications. Additionally, specialized equipment like tunnel and mud rescue tools, DNA profiling kits, and portable generators have also been provided.
India’s specialized tunnel rescue team initially began operations in coordination with the Nepalese army at two locations: Chilime and Langtang. Currently, the search efforts are focused on Chilime, where challenging terrain and tunnel slope conditions have posed significant obstacles. However, the Indian team has made commendable progress using both manual efforts and innovative technologies.
To further enhance the rescue operations, a temporary access route is being constructed to allow heavy machinery to reach the tunnel. This track is expected to be completed in the next two to three days.
The Ministry of External Affairs also noted that the Indian forensic team is working in collaboration with Nepali experts at two laboratories in Kathmandu to analyze DNA samples. The forensic laboratory equipment, DNA kits, and reagents provided by India will support these ongoing efforts.
