Kharge Urges Assam Voters to Dismiss Corrupt Government in Upcoming Elections

Guwahati, April 7: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has called on the people of Assam to vote out the most corrupt government in the upcoming elections on April 9. He accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of widespread corruption and abuse of power. Kharge emphasized that this is a battle between a corrupt chief minister and the people of Assam.

Addressing journalists, Kharge stated that the people of Assam value their culture and traditions. He asserted that they will not support what he described as uncivil and arrogant leadership.

He accused Chief Minister Sarma of prioritizing personal gain over public welfare. Kharge claimed that a syndicate system is operating in Assam, benefiting close associates and corporate entities through land allocations.

Questioning the BJP’s stance on corruption, Kharge pointed out that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah claim to have a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards corruption, no action has been taken against Sarma despite repeated allegations.

Kharge also alleged that Prime Minister Modi has given Sarma a free pass, linking it to the party’s purported funding practices.

Raising the issue of justice, Kharge referenced a case involving Assamese singer Jubin Garg. He claimed that there has been a delay in justice and questioned the state government’s intentions. He promised that if Congress comes to power, a fast-track court will be established within 100 days to ensure justice and punish the guilty.

Targeting the BJP over welfare schemes, Kharge assured women that financial assistance currently being provided will not be halted under a Congress government. Instead, he pledged to increase this amount. He accused the BJP of spreading misinformation that such benefits would cease if Congress were to take power.

Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, Kharge stated that Congress expects to win around 73 seats in Assam and form the next government. He urged voters, including those living outside the state, to return and cast their votes for change.

Kharge concluded by stating that Assam needs a decent and responsible chief minister. He reiterated that if leadership is corrupt, governance collapses. This is a battle between a corrupt chief minister and the people of Assam.
