In a bid to strengthen the film industry, the Kerala government has announced several significant initiatives in its budget. These measures aim to develop Malayalam cinema as an organized industry. Veteran actor Mohanlal welcomed this initiative, stating that it will play a crucial role in providing new energy, growth opportunities, and global recognition to the film sector.

Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, who also serves as the state’s finance minister, announced a special package for the development of the Malayalam film industry in his first budget for 2026-27. He emphasized that the government will implement comprehensive plans for the overall development of the cinema sector. The goal is to promote film production, enhance technical facilities, and create new investment opportunities.

Satheesan stated, “Under the budget, the J.C. Daniel International Film City will be established in Kochi. This project is a significant step toward providing modern facilities for Malayalam cinema. The government will also consider the demand to formally recognize cinema as an industry.”

Additionally, the government announced plans to create a permanent venue for the International Film Festival. Strong anti-piracy cells will be established to combat film piracy, and efforts will be made to attract major film production companies from both India and abroad to shoot in Kerala.
