Mumbai, August 28: Amitabh Bachchan is celebrated as one of Bollywood’s biggest stars. Over the decades, he has carved a special place in the hearts of people with his acting and powerful voice. However, before reaching this pinnacle, he faced several crossroads in his career that made him contemplate different paths.
During the 18th season of “Kaun Banega Crorepati,” Amitabh reminisced about his past and shared an amusing anecdote related to his education. He revealed that at one point, he considered pursuing a career in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). However, this dream did not progress far.
While conversing with contestant Pragati Kalpekar, who expressed her desire to continue her studies and become an IFS officer, Amitabh listened intently. Pragati told him, “I want to become an IFS officer because it will give me the opportunity to represent my country.”
She informed Amitabh that diplomats receive a maroon passport marked with “Diplomatic.” This sparked memories of Amitabh’s college days, prompting him to share an interesting story from his life.
Amitabh recounted, “My father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, wanted me to complete my graduation. He often emphasized the importance of education. I chose science as my major, but upon reaching college, I realized that this subject was not going to be easy for me. In the very first lecture, it felt like I was revisiting everything I had learned in ten years of school all at once. I thought I might have made a mistake by choosing science.”
He added, “Due to the challenges in my studies, I even failed an exam. However, later I managed to pass by just two marks through the ‘Allowed to Keep Term’ provision.”
Amitabh then reflected on his earlier dream. He said, “There was a time when I thought about joining the IFS. I even considered taking the civil services exam to build a career in the Indian Foreign Service. However, at that time, I didn’t have much information about the IFS. I didn’t even know what the ‘I’ stood for. So, I abandoned that thought.”
