Mumbai, August 28: Actress Upasana Singh, former General Secretary of the Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA), has made serious allegations against Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure amid ongoing disputes within the organization. During a press conference on Friday, Singh announced her intention to confront the issues plaguing the association and the alleged misconduct of Dhillon and Kolhapure.
Singh clarified that the CINTAA committee has been completely dissolved following the resignation of 11 members, including Mukesh Rishi, Puneet Issar, and Vindu Dara Singh. She and her supporters claim that decisions were being made unilaterally without any consensus, and changes were being implemented without prior notice. Singh also revealed an incident of alleged humiliation during a CINTAA meeting, stating that she was referred to as “aira-gaira” due to her English proficiency.
The actress recounted that Dhillon and Kolhapure had belittled her by stating she was merely a character artist while they were stars. “I am here because this industry has given me so much. I started from zero in a small town, Shyarpur. Today, if people recognize me worldwide, it is due to my career. Therefore, I decided to give back. I want to work for my fellow actors and all technicians, not just for actors but for the entire film industry,” Singh expressed.
She further discussed the disrespect faced by her and other members, stating, “We have been humiliated. I was called ‘aira-gaira.’ I was told I am a character artist, and they are stars. Such words were used to demean us.”
Singh also mentioned an incident involving actor Deepak Parashar, who was allegedly told that he did not know English. Following a reported incident of mistreatment towards CP Thakur, Deepak left in tears, prompting Singh to take him to the hospital due to his distress.
“We have endured this for the past two and a half years. If someone else were in our position, they might not have tolerated it. That is why the resignations were submitted,” Singh concluded.
