Karti Chidambaram Confident of Secular Progressive Alliances Success in Tamil Nadu Elections

KaraiKudi, April 23: Congress MP Karti Chidambaram expressed strong confidence on Thursday that the Secular Progressive Alliance, led by the DMK, will perform exceptionally well in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections.

Accompanied by his wife, Srinidhi, and daughter, Aditi, he visited KaraiKudi in Shivaganga to cast his vote.

After voting, Chidambaram stated, “I am fully confident that the alliance will perform very well. I have particular faith in my parliamentary constituency (Shivaganga). I also believe that K.R. Periyakaruppan, our candidate from the Tirupattur assembly, will be re-elected by a significant margin.”

He urged young voters to actively participate in the democratic process and come out in large numbers to cast their votes. Chidambaram remarked, “Voting is a privilege, a right, and also a duty. I hope the youth will come out, observe political parties and candidates, and their policies and leadership. I wish to see them more involved in politics.”

When asked about the functioning of the Election Commission of India (ECI) during the voting process, Chidambaram noted that it has been smooth and peaceful so far. He mentioned that everything in Tamil Nadu is calm, as usual, and he has not heard of any untoward incidents. He is confident that voting will continue peacefully.

Voting for all 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly began at 7 AM, with over 57.3 million eligible voters deciding the fate of 4,023 candidates.

The main contenders in this electoral battle include the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), and the Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), making this one of the most competitive elections in recent years.

Voting commenced early, with large queues of voters seen at polling booths, reflecting the tremendous enthusiasm of the people to participate in the democratic process.

Given the decisive role of voter turnout, political parties are closely monitoring voting trends across all constituencies. According to data released by the ECI, voter turnout was 70 percent by 3 PM.

Vote counting is scheduled for May 4, when the election results will determine the next governments in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
