Bengaluru, April 14: Karnataka Congress President and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar addressed the media on Tuesday regarding the dismissal of Nasir Ahmed, the political secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He emphasized that party discipline is paramount.
While responding to questions at his residence in Sadashivanagar and the KPCC office, Shivakumar stated that the Chief Minister made this decision after gathering information from various sources, keeping the party’s interests in mind.
He noted that the Chief Minister acted based on reports received from multiple sources concerning Ahmed’s performance.
When asked about the dismissal, Shivakumar explained that the party had instructed Ahmed to ensure that a rebel candidate in the Davanagere South constituency withdrew from the election. He failed to fulfill this responsibility, and Shivakumar has not yet received a detailed report on the incident.
On whether this action sends a message to those involved in anti-party activities, Shivakumar reiterated the importance of discipline within any party. He mentioned that candidates were selected only after consulting with all leaders, and the Chief Minister’s decision was based on information from these leaders.
Regarding the possibility of disciplinary action against Housing and Wakf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, he stated that he has no information on that matter.
Shivakumar also shared his plans to travel to Chennai for election campaigning, stating he would leave that night with a scheduled campaign event on Wednesday.
When questioned about reports of personal meetings with legislators, he affirmed the necessity of discussing future plans with them. As the party president, he feels responsible for addressing municipal and local body elections. He expressed that if he does not take charge, who will? Legislators are also providing reports on the recent events in Davanagere South and Bagalkot by-elections.
In response to inquiries about direct warnings to legislators, he clarified that it is not wrong for them to go to Delhi to demand ministerial positions. They are free to express their demands but must maintain discipline within the party. He advised them to remain cautious when responding to media inquiries.
It is noteworthy that Nasir Ahmed, a close associate of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was dismissed on Tuesday amid allegations that he worked against Congress candidate Samarth Shamanur during the recently concluded Davanagere South by-election. The Karnataka government issued an order regarding this matter on Tuesday morning.
