Karnataka BJP Hails India-US Trade Deal as Historic Economic Win

Bengaluru: The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) described the India-US trade agreement announced on Tuesday as a historic success for the country’s economy.

On the social media platform X, Karnataka BJP president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra said, “The India-US trade deal marks a significant turning point for our economy. The tariff has been reduced to just 18 percent. This historic agreement will open unprecedented opportunities for our farmers, MSMEs, entrepreneurs, and skilled workers. It will also strengthen our ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ visions. This deal will be a game-changer for exports, job creation, and economic growth.”

Vijayendra congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and diplomatic skills in securing this strategic partnership between the world’s two largest democracies.

BJP MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the historic trade agreement reflects the shared vision and strong leadership of Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump, which will deepen cooperation between the two trusted democracies.

In his post on X, Bommai wrote, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s creative and decisive leadership on the global stage has once again demonstrated that India’s national interests are fully safeguarded. His ability to engage confidently with global powers and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes highlights India’s rising stature in world affairs. I sincerely appreciate his leadership and thank Prime Minister Modi and his team for this important achievement.”

Bommai added that the partnership will create new opportunities for farmers, MSMEs, innovators, and skilled professionals. It will also promote technology, development, and global cooperation.

However, the ruling Congress party in Karnataka criticized the central government over the deal. Minister Priyank Kharge said in Bengaluru, “A few months ago, the central government celebrated GST reduction despite the burden on the common man. Now, they are celebrating the tariff reduction from 26 percent to 18 percent. This is similar.”

He further said, “US President Donald Trump is directing India to buy fuel from them and imposing conditions on our Prime Minister. The BJP is celebrating this. There is no clarity yet on what actual benefit India has gained from this agreement.”
