Mumbai, May 10: Central Minister Ramdas Athawale expressed confidence that justice will prevail in West Bengal once the BJP forms the government. He noted that Suvendu Adhikari, who previously aligned with Mamata Banerjee, joined the BJP in 2020 and led the party in the recent state elections.
Athawale highlighted that the BJP secured approximately 207 seats, indicating a weakening grip of Mamata Banerjee, whom he accused of economically ruining the state. He stated that she has introduced a culture of ‘gundaraj’ in Bengal, prompting voters to express their anger through the ballot. He criticized Banerjee for not resigning after the mandate, a move he claimed was unprecedented, contrasting it with MK Stalin’s resignation in Tamil Nadu.
He reiterated Prime Minister Modi’s dream of transforming Bengal into ‘Sonar Bangla’ and assured that good governance will ensure justice for all. Athawale believes that Bengal will emerge as a strong state in the country.
On the Marathi language issue, Athawale mentioned that Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik suggested that all rickshaw drivers in Mumbai should learn Marathi. While he supports this initiative, he emphasized that it should not be enforced. He explained that the government encourages learning Marathi, as it is the state language, and people whose native languages are Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, and Bhojpuri should also make an effort to learn it. Recently, Haji Arafat Sheikh initiated a program to teach Marathi to taxi and rickshaw drivers, which he described as a very positive step.
Regarding the arrest of Punjab Minister Sanjeev Arora by the ED, Athawale stated that the ED and CBI operate based on evidence. He noted that when they receive inputs or evidence, they conduct raids and make arrests. He affirmed that the law is paramount, and if a minister is arrested, there must be a legal basis and substantial evidence behind the action taken by the ED.
