Shivamogga, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : Congress in Karnataka commenced its ‘Bharat Jodo 2.0’ foot march on Wednesday, starting from the village of Kittadahalli in Shivamogga district. This initiative takes place in a constituency represented by BJP state president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra, whose father, former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, previously held the same seat.
The march will cover a distance of approximately 9 to 10 kilometers, passing through Kote, Hosanagara Cross, and Nelavodalu before concluding in Shikaripura. Following the march, a rally is scheduled at the APMC ground.
Key figures attending the event included Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president B.K. Hariprasad, Urban Development Minister Yatindra Siddaramaiah, and other senior Congress leaders. The ‘Bharat Jodo 2.0’ campaign is set to unfold in 84 assembly constituencies where the party faced defeats in the 2023 assembly elections. Spanning 84 days, it aims to cover 29 districts.
The party emphasizes engaging with the public to address local issues, particularly drought and farmer-related concerns.
During interactions with the media, Hariprasad accused B.Y. Vijayendra of removing Congress flags and posters. He stated, “Vijayendra should not act in such a manner. As the state BJP president, he should respect the right to protest in a democracy. If our symbols are taken down, we will also remove BJP flags and banners.”
Referencing a recent BJP protest march, Hariprasad criticized the party for not addressing drought issues in affected areas. He also targeted Vijayendra over allegations of corruption, claiming that the Shikaripura MLA has become a model of corruption globally. Hariprasad alleged that Vijayendra received a bribe of 17 crore rupees through RTGS transactions in his father’s name.
The ‘Bharat Jodo 2.0’ march aims to strengthen the Congress party’s presence and address pressing local issues in Karnataka.
