Patna, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : Independent MP Pappu Yadav from Purnia has raised serious concerns about women’s safety in Bihar, stating that leaders’ lives revolve around “alcohol, pleasure, and debauchery.” His comments come in the wake of a disturbing incident in Begusarai, where a young woman was allegedly raped and assaulted in a hotel.
Yadav expressed outrage over the incident, declaring, “If it were up to me, I would shoot the accused a hundred times. The brutality inflicted on the girl in that hotel is condemnable. If the law allowed, that accused should not have a moment’s freedom.”
He further emphasized that women are not safe even in their own homes. “They are vulnerable to violence from neighbors, teachers, and even police officers. Where can they feel secure? It’s time to stop making useless statements about women’s safety,” he said.
Questioning the historical context of women’s safety in India, Yadav asked why discussions about accountability are always directed towards daughters rather than sons. He asserted, “There are no laws in this country to protect daughters.”
In addition to addressing women’s issues, Yadav criticized political leaders, suggesting they focus solely on “alcohol, pleasure, and debauchery,” neglecting important issues like caste and religious tensions.
On the topic of flooding in Bihar, Yadav noted the lack of available medicines and the limited number of community kitchens. He mentioned having to provide financial assistance to around 20,000 impoverished families recently.
Yadav also questioned the accountability of the irrigation minister regarding the breach of embankments in Bagaha, demanding immediate action. “Either dismiss the minister or demand their resignation. If you (Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary) are going to Bettiah today, do it before you leave,” he urged.
