Jalandhar, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : The leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab have reiterated their commitment to dismantle the state’s drug trade ahead of Central Home Minister Amit Shah‘s scheduled visit to Jalandhar. They criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for allowing drug traffickers to flourish since taking power in the state.
Punjab BJP President, Kaul Singh Dhillon, emphasized that drug abuse is the most pressing issue in Punjab. He pointed out the current government’s failure to curb the drug problem, stating, “Arvind Kejriwal promised to eliminate drugs within three months, but four and a half years later, the situation remains unchanged.” He accused the government of suppressing dissent as it failed to tackle the drug crisis.
Dhillon highlighted additional concerns, including law and order, economic conditions, unemployment, and issues affecting farmers and marginalized communities, which he claimed are being ignored.
In anticipation of Shah’s arrival, Dhillon mentioned a campaign against drugs that garnered significant public support. The campaign covered over 4,000 kilometers, reaching 117 assembly constituencies, and he noted a strong turnout from the public. “We witnessed enthusiasm among our workers and received a warm response across Punjab,” he said, citing crowds of up to 10,000 people at events.
Dhillon also criticized the AAP, alleging that the party, having been ousted from Delhi, is now attempting to exploit Punjab. He accused AAP members of taking control of properties meant for state officials and interfering in local governance.
BJP leader Jaiveer Shergill echoed these sentiments, asserting that Shah’s visit and the BJP’s “Nasha-Mukt Punjab” campaign demonstrate their dedication to eradicating the drug trade. He predicted that the BJP would secure victory in the 2027 elections, leading to a decline in drug abuse and the departure of Kejriwal from Punjab.
Shergill labeled the AAP as the “Luxury Party,” claiming that their governance has turned Punjab into a playground for drug traffickers. He criticized the state government for allegedly silencing voices against drug abuse and for advising police officers to avoid wearing uniforms while on duty to evade gangsters. He concluded by stating that the current administration has driven Punjab into reverse, a situation he believes the public will rectify in the upcoming elections.
