Jharkhand’s Annual Budget to Cross ₹1 Lakh Crore: CM Hemant Soren

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has announced that the annual budget for Jharkhand for the year 2026-27 is expected to exceed ₹1 lakh crore. He emphasized that the budget is being prepared with a focus on being comprehensive, balanced, inclusive, and centered on sustainable development to strengthen every section and region of the state.

The Chief Minister stated that the government aims to ensure the proposed budget reflects the aspirations of the people and shapes the future potential of the young state.

Addressing the “Pre-Budget Seminar 2026-27” organized by the Finance Department at the Jharkhand Secretariat on Thursday, Hemant Soren said the budget size is estimated at around ₹1 lakh crore and is likely to increase in the coming years. He stressed the need for concrete efforts to enhance revenue collection to avoid resource shortages in implementing development and welfare schemes.

Highlighting the importance of public participation in the budget-making process, the Chief Minister noted that the government is continuously seeking suggestions from citizens. He added that only with public involvement can a balanced and development-focused budget be prepared.

Referring to his recent visits to Davos and London, the Chief Minister said that the experiences gained will guide efforts to accelerate the state’s development. He acknowledged that the new generation is looking for innovative paths beyond traditional systems, making it essential to create a budget that meets their needs and expectations.

CM Soren emphasized that Jharkhand is rich in resources and capabilities, including water, forests, mineral wealth, human resources, labor force, farmers, and athletes. He underlined the need for better management and utilization of these resources.

Despite being a small and relatively backward state, Jharkhand contributes significantly to the national economy. The government is working towards strengthening agriculture, health, education, tourism, sports, and infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of value addition to natural resources, citing products like lac and tasar as potential sources of greater benefit for the state. Given Jharkhand’s tribal population, promoting tribal traditions remains a government priority.

To improve the budget, suggestions from experts and the public are being incorporated. On this occasion, individuals offering the best suggestions were honoured. The seminar was attended by Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore, senior officials, and experts from various reputed institutions.
