Dhanbad, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Dhanbad’s MP-MLA special court has granted anticipatory bail to Jayaram Mahto, the MLA from Dumri and leader of the Jharkhand Democratic Revolutionary Front (JLRF). This decision comes in light of allegations involving a disturbance at the Barwadih police station, where Mahto was accused of misbehavior towards police officers and obstructing official duties.
The case stems from an incident on the night of August 21, when a dispute erupted at the Barwadih police station. The controversy involved the alleged use of fake letterheads, signatures, and seals in the name of Yashoda Devi, the head of the Barapichri Panchayat. It was claimed that these documents were intended for the preparation of caste certificates, residential certificates, and genealogical records.
Following the detention of JLRF leader Ganesh Das in this matter, Mahto, along with his supporters, arrived at the police station. Police allege that a ruckus ensued during this visit, and there was an attempt to forcibly release Ganesh Das from custody.
During this incident, an audio recording purportedly featuring a conversation between Mahto and the station officer, Ravi Kumar, surfaced on social media. In the audio, Mahto allegedly used abusive language and issued threats. However, the authenticity of this recording has not been independently verified. Based on a written statement from Officer Kumar, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Mahto and approximately 40-50 unidentified individuals for various offenses, including obstructing government work, threatening police personnel, and creating a disturbance.
Mahto has dismissed the allegations as a political conspiracy, asserting that he was merely seeking information regarding his worker’s arrest. He claimed that he faced mistreatment and an attempted assault during the incident at the police station.
During the hearing for the anticipatory bail application, the court requested the police case diary. The police presented this diary in court on Thursday, after which arguments from both sides were heard, leading to the decision being reserved.
