Lucknow, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh government has successfully reclaimed a total of 39,721.541 hectares of grazing land from illegal occupation across 62 districts. This initiative aims to secure grazing areas for the protection and promotion of livestock.
Through the Chief Minister‘s Participation Scheme, the government is also ensuring the care and protection of abandoned cattle by transferring them to willing and eligible beneficiaries. Mukesh Meshram, the Additional Chief Secretary, reported that under this scheme, 93,287 beneficiaries have received 167,658 cattle. This effort has provided a safe and improved shelter for a significant number of abandoned animals while also connecting rural families with livestock rearing to strengthen their livelihoods.
The initiative addresses the issue of stray cattle on roads and public spaces, promoting effective participation in the conservation and enhancement of livestock. Under this scheme, beneficiaries are responsible for the care, feeding, and protection of the cattle entrusted to them. This not only creates a secure environment for the animals but also supports animal husbandry, thereby bolstering the rural economy.
Meshram emphasized that the government is continuously conducting campaigns to free public and grazing lands from illegal encroachments. The recovery of over 39,000 hectares of grazing land aligns with the state’s priority of preserving these areas for livestock conservation and promotion, ultimately enhancing the management of abandoned cattle and promoting animal husbandry in rural regions.
