Ranchi, June 29: Under the Jharkhand government’s free bicycle distribution scheme, 693 students from ten government schools received bicycles on Monday. Welfare Minister Chamra Linda presented the bicycles during an event held at the TVS CM School of Excellence in Jagannathpur.
The minister emphasized that the state government’s goal is to ensure quality education reaches every student. He stated that no child’s education should be disrupted due to economic or geographical reasons. The bicycle distribution initiative aims to reduce the issue of students dropping out due to the distance to schools.
Linda also mentioned that the government is enhancing opportunities for both school and higher education. To prepare students for competitive exams in fields like medicine and engineering, special coaching is being provided by renowned institutions in Kota, such as Motion Education, enabling students from the state to perform better in national competitions.
He urged students to study with dedication and discipline, set clear life goals, and strive continuously to achieve them. This initiative, run by the Department of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Minorities, and Backward Classes Welfare, provides free bicycles to students studying in the eighth grade at government schools.
The scheme aims to facilitate access to schools for students in remote areas and reduce dropout rates. According to officials, a total of 16,780 students in Ranchi district are approved to receive free bicycles during the 2026-27 academic year.
The event was attended by Manisha Tirkey, Project Director of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Ranchi, District Education Officer Vinay Kumar, Block Welfare Supervisor Anul Haque, as well as school principals and other officials.
