Japan on High Alert as Typhoon No. 15 Approaches, PM Calls for Caution

New Delhi, August 10: Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has issued a warning to the public regarding deteriorating weather conditions. She urged citizens to exercise caution as Typhoon No. 15 approaches, bringing heavy rain, landslides, flooding, and strong winds. Takaichi advised people to move to safe locations promptly and to stay updated on the latest weather information.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Takaichi reported that Typhoon No. 15 is currently moving northwest over the sea in eastern Japan. It is expected to come dangerously close to the southern Tohoku and northern Kanto regions by tomorrow, August 11, with a possibility of making landfall.

The Prime Minister stated that the government is continuously monitoring the situation through the ‘Information Coordination Room’ established at the Prime Minister’s Crisis Management Center. Necessary information is being gathered, and measures will be strengthened as needed to ensure disaster management is fully prepared.

Takaichi warned of heavy rainfall in the Pacific Ocean area of the Tohoku region from late morning to late night on the 11th. She emphasized the need for extreme caution regarding landslides and advised vigilance for flooding in low-lying areas, as well as rising river levels.

Additionally, strong winds throughout the day on the 11th could cause damage to buildings and disrupt transportation. High waves and storm surges in marine areas may pose risks to ships and coastal facilities, necessitating special vigilance.

The Prime Minister also noted that the Kanto-Koshin region could experience high waves, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising river levels from noon to late night on the 11th. Citizens have been urged to remain cautious.

She requested that the public familiarize themselves with potential hazard areas, safe evacuation centers, and routes to reach them. It is crucial to stay informed through radio, television, the internet, and local authorities regarding weather and disaster updates.

Takaichi concluded by emphasizing that if anyone feels even a slight risk, they should evacuate to a safe location without delay. Taking timely action for personal and family safety is of utmost importance.
