Heavy Rains Disrupt Life in Dindori, Schools Closed Due to Rising Narmada River Levels

Dindori, August 10: The district administration reports that heavy rainfall in Dindori, Madhya Pradesh, has disrupted daily life for the past two days. The Narmada River’s water levels have risen significantly, leading to the submersion of two bridges and severing road connectivity to Jabalpur.

Following continuous rainfall, one bridge in Dindori city and another on the Jabalpur-Amarkantak National Highway at Jogi Tikaria have been submerged. Traffic on both bridges has been halted, and police have set up barricades and ropes to prevent people from attempting to cross.

As a precaution, police forces have been deployed in these areas. The rising water levels are also affecting low-lying areas along the riverbank. Seven families residing near the river have been relocated to a shelter home in a safer area. Officials are monitoring the situation in Hans Nagar and Saket Nagar, where the rising water poses a threat to homes.

Dindori Collector Anju Pawan Bhadauria and Superintendent of Police Ashish Khare inspected the Narmada Bridge and other affected areas, instructing officials to maintain constant vigilance.

In a statement released on Sunday, the district administration announced that police and revenue teams have been stationed along the riverbank, continuously monitoring the situation. Residents have been alerted to avoid waterlogged or flood-affected areas.

In a related incident, a mud house collapsed late Saturday night in the Karounda Gram Panchayat area under the Gadasarai police station, resulting in the death of a seven-year-old boy, Raja, son of Vishram. The police recovered the body from the debris and handed it over to the family after a post-mortem.

Given the heavy rains and current conditions, the district administration has declared a holiday for all government and private schools from nursery to 12th grade on August 10. All Anganwadi centers in the district will also remain closed on Monday. However, teachers and other school staff have been instructed to report to their respective workplaces.

The district administration emphasized that the holiday was declared in light of the ongoing heavy rains, prioritizing the safety of children. Necessary arrangements have also been directed to be made.
