New Delhi, August 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and several prominent leaders, extended warm birthday wishes to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. They all wished for his long life and good health.
On the social media platform ‘X’, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Best wishes to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on his birthday. May God grant him a long life and excellent health.”
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also conveyed his heartfelt wishes, stating, “Happy birthday to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. I pray for your good health and longevity.”
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also sent his birthday greetings to Soren, expressing, “Warm congratulations to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on his birthday. I wish you good health and a long life.”
Hemant Soren was born on this day in 1975 in Nemra village, Ramgarh district of Jharkhand. He is the son of senior tribal leader and JMM founder Shibu Soren.
Soren’s political journey began in 2009 when he became a Rajya Sabha member from Jharkhand. In September 2010, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister, serving until January 2013. Later that year, he took the oath as Chief Minister, leading the JMM-RJD-Congress coalition government.
He served as the 9th Chief Minister of Jharkhand from July 13, 2013, to December 23, 2014. Although he lost the 2014 assembly elections from the Dumka constituency, he maintained his political standing by winning from the Barhet seat. In January 2015, he was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly.
In the 2019 Jharkhand assembly elections, the coalition led by JMM secured a majority. Soren contested from both Dumka and Barhet, winning in both constituencies, and became Chief Minister for the second time. In 2022, he successfully won a confidence vote in the Jharkhand Assembly, further solidifying his position as Chief Minister.
However, Soren resigned from his post on January 31, 2024, prior to being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged land scam. He was released on June 28, 2024, and returned to his position, taking the oath of office again in July 2024, marking his return to the state’s highest political office.
