
Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested a drug smuggler in Jammu city carrying over 18 kilograms of opium husk, officials said on Sunday.
According to an ANTF spokesperson, the arrest took place during a checkpoint operation on Sidhra Panjtirthi Link Road, where a large quantity of narcotics was seized.
Based on specific intelligence, the ANTF team stopped an Alto car on the road. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed more than 18 kilograms of a narcotic substance resembling opium husk.
The arrested individual has been identified as Kirpal Singh, a resident of Gunda Khawas in Rajouri district.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused was involved in trafficking narcotics from Kashmir to Jammu for illegal distribution among local youth.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene, and the vehicle used in the crime was confiscated. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Further investigations are underway to trace the source of the narcotics and identify others involved in the network.
The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Narcotics Task Force remains committed to curbing drug trafficking and dismantling organised drug syndicates in the region.
Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share any information related to drug trafficking.
