Dhaka, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : On September 16, 2026, Dinesh Trivedi, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, met with the country’s Tourism Minister, Rashiduzzaman Millat, in Dhaka. The two officials engaged in serious discussions aimed at enhancing air services between the two nations.
The Indian High Commission shared details of the meeting via social media. During their conversation, Trivedi and Millat explored various topics, including increasing cooperation in civil aviation, improving air connectivity, expanding air cargo capacity, and promoting tourism.
Trivedi took office as the Indian High Commissioner on June 25, 2026. He is well-acquainted with West Bengal’s politics, as well as Bengali language and culture. The Indian government has granted him this diplomatic role alongside a personal status equivalent to that of a central cabinet minister.
Shortly after assuming his position, Trivedi announced the resumption of tourist visa services between India and Bangladesh. This service, which had been suspended for nearly two years, was reinstated on June 28, 2026.
Following political changes and instability, the Indian government gradually reintroduced tourist visa services for Bangladeshi citizens. Applications are currently being processed through visa centers located in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna.
Tourists from Bangladesh frequently visit attractions such as the Sundarbans mangrove forest, the tea gardens of Srimangal, and the historic Lalbagh Fort in Dhaka. Conversely, the Taj Mahal in Agra, Kolkata, and the northeastern states of India remain popular destinations for Bangladeshi travelers.
The tourism relationship between India and Bangladesh is primarily built on cultural exchanges, historical ties, and medical tourism.
