Srinagar, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch announced on Monday that it has filed a chargesheet against a notorious fraudster involved in a government job scam.
An official statement revealed that the chargesheet was submitted to the Forest Magistrate’s Court in Srinagar, addressing allegations of fraud and forgery against Abdul Majid Mir. The case was registered under sections 420, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code. Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, hails from the Lishtiyal village in the Kupwara district.
The investigation was initiated following a written complaint, which claimed that Mir had deceitfully siphoned off millions of rupees from the complainant under the pretext of securing a government job for their son. He allegedly provided a fake appointment letter purportedly issued by the Airports Authority of India.
During the investigation, the allegations were substantiated, leading to the submission of the chargesheet to the competent court for judicial proceedings. Mir, who has 15 criminal cases registered against him in the Kashmir Valley, was arrested on July 18, 2026, and is currently incarcerated in Srinagar Central Jail.
Mir has reportedly posed as influential individuals and bureaucrats to deceive innocent victims. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant against financial fraudsters and to report any such incidents directly to Abdul Waheed Shah at the EOW in Srinagar. Victims of financial fraud are also encouraged to send their complaints via the official email.
The EOW is tasked with investigating high-profile economic crimes, requiring dedicated teams of investigators with technical support. The regional police, focused on maintaining law and order, often lack the time to address such significant offenses. The Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch operates as a specialized wing to handle these matters.
