
New Delhi, March 10: Jammu and Kashmir celebrated its first Ranji Trophy title victory in February. Following this achievement, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah hosted a dinner in honor of the winning team. During the event, he awarded the players a cash prize of ₹2 crore. BCCI President Mithun Manhas was also present at the occasion.
According to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s office on X, “The Chief Minister organized a dinner to honor the Jammu and Kashmir Ranji Trophy winning team. He warmly welcomed the team alongside his cabinet colleagues and senior officials. The players received a cash prize of ₹2 crore. BCCI President Mithun Manhas was also in attendance. Congratulating the players on their remarkable achievement, the Chief Minister wished them continued success and encouraged them to bring pride to the region on a national platform.”
In the final match held in Hubli, Jammu and Kashmir claimed the trophy against eight-time champions Karnataka by taking a first-innings lead.
Jammu and Kashmir scored 584 runs in their first innings, with Shubham Pundir contributing 121 runs. Yawar Hassan added 88 runs, while captain Paras Dogra and Kanhaiya Vadhawan each scored 70 runs.
In response, Karnataka was bowled out for just 293 runs in their first innings, with Aaqib Nabi Dar taking five wickets. Jammu and Kashmir then scored 342 runs in their second innings, losing four wickets, securing the match based on their first-innings lead.
After the victory, CM Omar Abdullah remarked, “This historic win has filled the entire region with pride and inspiration. The players will also be entitled to government appointments under recently notified rules for outstanding athletes.”
