India Faces Defeat Against Indonesia in Billie Jean King Cup

New Delhi, April 10: In the Billie Jean King Cup Group I Asia/Oceania matches, India suffered a defeat against Indonesia on Thursday. The match, held at the DLTA Complex, saw Indonesia take an unassailable lead by winning both singles matches.

In the first singles match, Vaishnavi Adkar faced a tough battle against Priska Madeline Nugroho, ultimately losing 7-6(3), 6-7(3), 6-3. The match was filled with ups and downs, with Adkar making a comeback in the second set, but the Indonesian player clinched the decisive third set.

In the second singles, Sahaja Yamalapalli faced a one-sided defeat against Janis Tzen, losing 6-2, 6-1, which secured the match for Indonesia. As this report was being written, Rutuja Bhosale and Ankita Raina were competing in the doubles match against the Indonesian pair.

In other matches, the Republic of Korea continued its winning streak by defeating New Zealand. Dayon Baek triumphed over Valentina Ivanov with a score of 7-5, 6-3, while Sohyun Park secured a convincing win against Monique Barry, 6-0, 6-1, ensuring the team’s victory. Both Korea and Indonesia remain at the top of the standings, having won all their matches so far.

Meanwhile, Thailand made a remarkable comeback by sweeping Mongolia 3-0. Thasaporn Naklo defeated Anu-Vajin Gantor 6-1, 6-0, and Pacharini Chipchandej also won against Khongorzhul Aldarkhishig with the same score. In doubles, the pair of Pengtarn Plipuech and Kamonwan Yodpech completed the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win over the Mongolian team.

All six teams will compete in a round-robin format until Saturday, after which the top two teams will advance to the next stage.
