Umaria, April 10: Two police officers were seriously injured in a road accident near Bharoula village on National Highway-43 in Umaria district, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday. The incident occurred late in the evening when a police vehicle collided head-on with a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction.
The injured officer has been identified as Jodhan Singh Paraste, the town inspector of Chhindwara police station, who was on duty at the time of the accident.
According to police reports, the collision was severe enough to cause significant damage to the police vehicle. Inspector Paraste sustained serious injuries and was immediately transported to Umaria District Hospital. Due to the critical nature of his condition, he was later referred to Jabalpur Medical College for further treatment.
The driver of the police vehicle, Saurabh, also sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the district hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
City SP Punnu Singh Paraste confirmed the incident, stating that the police team was on duty when the accident occurred. He noted that local residents and emergency services promptly assisted in the rescue efforts, ensuring that the injured were taken to the hospital without delay.
A case has been registered, and an investigation has commenced to determine the precise cause of the accident. Initial reports suggest that speeding and negligence may have contributed to the incident, although all factors are being thoroughly examined.
Senior police officials are closely monitoring the condition of the injured, and further actions will be taken based on the investigation’s findings. The police are collecting statements from the bus driver, the police officers involved, and eyewitnesses to gain a comprehensive understanding of the event.
Paraste emphasized that the true cause of the accident will be established after a detailed investigation, and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
