Liberias Foreign Minister Inaugurates Embassy in New Delhi During Official Visit

New Delhi, August 14: Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sarah Besolo Nyanti, arrived in the national capital for a two-day official visit. According to information shared by the Ministry of External Affairs, she met with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar. During this meeting, they inaugurated Liberia’s embassy in India.

The Ministry of External Affairs reported that Dr. Jaishankar and Minister Nyanti engaged in bilateral discussions in New Delhi. They reviewed the scope of India-Liberia relations, covering areas such as technology, agriculture, health, mining, energy, trade and investment, education, capacity building, and people-to-people interactions.

Both leaders also exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest. Dr. Jaishankar congratulated Minister Nyanti on the inauguration of Liberia’s embassy in New Delhi.

The ministers discussed deepening cooperation in multilateral forums to strengthen peace, development, and the voice of the Global South. They emphasized the importance of reforming multilateralism, including changes to the United Nations Security Council.

Additionally, Dr. Jaishankar shared photos from their meeting on the social media platform X, expressing his pleasure in meeting Minister Nyanti and congratulating her on the opening of Liberia’s new embassy in New Delhi. He noted that they had fruitful discussions on commercial shipping, mining, health, agriculture, water, and security training, with a focus on the urgent need for reforms in the UNSC. He expressed confidence that South-South cooperation would continue to strengthen.

Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that this visit presents an opportunity to further solidify the deep and close ties between India and Liberia.

According to the Ministry, Liberia benefits from India’s duty-free tariff preference scheme, which facilitates the export of Liberian goods such as timber, vegetable oil, and rubber to India.

Currently, over 200 Indian companies operate in Liberia across various sectors, including automobiles, mining, healthcare, electronics, and pharmaceuticals. Liberia is also a member of the International Solar Alliance.
