New Delhi, August 19: The Ambassador of Palestine to India, Abdullah M. Abu Shavesh, announced that an ‘India Hospital’ will soon be established in Palestine, with all necessary paperwork completed. In a special interview on Wednesday, Shavesh highlighted the dire health situation in the West Bank and the significance of the recent visit by a senior Indian diplomat to Palestine.
During the visit, Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, Sripriya Ranganathan, held several meetings with the Prime Minister on Tuesday. She finalized arrangements for the construction and inauguration of the ‘India Hospital’ in the West Bank, signing essential documents. Shavesh noted that this visit marks another step forward in strengthening the relationship between India and Palestine, with multiple projects signed during the trip.
Ranganathan’s official visit to Palestine reaffirmed India’s ongoing support for the Palestinian people. She met with the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Rawan Abu Shahin, in Ramallah, reiterating India’s long-standing commitment to a two-nation solution for Palestine.
Later, the Indian Representative Office in Ramallah stated, “India has reiterated its long-standing support for a two-state solution through dialogue.” They expressed concern over the severe humanitarian situation in Gaza and emphasized the need for unhindered humanitarian aid to reach civilians.
Regarding India’s assistance and the deteriorating health system in Palestine, Shavesh remarked, “About two months ago, I mentioned that Palestine’s health sector is on the brink of collapse. I contacted the Foreign Minister and discussed this issue. He promised to take action. To my knowledge, medicines and medical supplies will soon arrive in Palestine.”
Previously, during a press conference at the Palestinian Embassy in New Delhi, the ambassador also shared details about India’s support for prosthetic limb projects. He mentioned that India will send dialysis machines and medical supplies to Palestine.
Additionally, he appealed to the international community to extend support to Palestine, a nation facing an “existential threat.” He stated, “The international community should not wait to ask what happened to the Palestinian community. Action must be taken now. Steps should be taken to prevent the expansion of Israeli settlements, forced displacement, and ‘de facto annexation’.”
He also called for accountability for alleged extremist violence and the protection of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
Abu Shavesh emphasized, “Palestinian land is not an electoral prize. The lives of the Palestinian people are not electoral currency, and their rights should not be counted as votes in Israeli elections.”
The ambassador urged the international community to intervene immediately regarding the rights and future of the Palestinian people.
