Jaipur Engineer Arrested for Alleged Bribery of ₹80,000

Jaipur, June 30: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Sanjay Kumar Bairwa, a junior engineer stationed at the Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s Civil Lines zone, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹80,000. This action was taken on the directives of the ACB headquarters following a complaint received by the Jaipur unit.

According to ACB Director General Govind Gupta, the complaint involved a request from the complainant to demolish an old dilapidated house and obtain permission to construct a new building.

Approximately four months later, the seal on the property was lifted, allowing construction of the basement, ground floor, and first floor. On June 3, 2026, the accused engineer, along with a fourth-grade employee named Deendayal, allegedly threatened to reapply the seal, deploy security personnel, and halt construction work.

The accused demanded a bribe of ₹2 lakh, which was requested from both Bairwa and the then-deputy commissioner, Sunil Bairwa, to ensure uninterrupted construction. Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a discreet verification.

On June 4, 2026, during the verification, it was confirmed that Sanjay Kumar Bairwa had solicited a bribe of ₹1 lakh. Under his direction, co-accused Deendayal accepted ₹20,000 as an advance bribe. Subsequently, the accused continued to demand the remaining amount.

After confirmation, the ACB planned a trap operation. On Monday, during the operation, the accused unlocked his Maruti Fox vehicle and instructed the complainant to place ₹80,000 in cash near the gear lever on the dashboard.

The ACB team recovered the entire amount from the dashboard. A chemical test confirmed contact with the notes, revealing a pink reaction on the dashboard. Additionally, ₹27,400 in cash was found in the accused’s wallet. Preliminary investigations indicated that the complainant’s work was pending with the accused.

Interrogation of the accused is ongoing, and further legal action is being pursued.
