Ujjain, August 27: A violent clash at a dhaba in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, late Wednesday night resulted in the deaths of two individuals. The incident stemmed from an old rivalry between two factions associated with the Karni Sena.
The altercation erupted at the ‘Lucky Darbar Dhaba’ in the Kanipura area after a heated argument between the two groups. According to police reports, the situation escalated when one faction allegedly called in reinforcements. Approximately 12 to 15 armed individuals arrived at the scene, attacking members of the opposing group with knives and swords.
Among the injured were 42-year-old Rahul Darbar, also known as Vijay Pratap, from Neemnawasa, and 35-year-old Jitendra Pawar, the dhaba owner. Rahul sustained severe injuries and was transported to a private hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police later discovered Jitendra’s body in nearby bushes, a short distance from the dhaba.
Authorities are piecing together the sequence of events based on statements from the injured and witnesses present at the scene. Rahul’s uncle, Hemant Singh Chouhan, informed police that Rahul’s younger brother received a phone call around 11 PM from a person named Shakti Singh, warning him to save his brother if possible.
Family members rushed to the dhaba and found Rahul injured. Chouhan noted that Rahul and Shakti had gone to the dhaba after resolving a previous dispute involving a child. During their stay, an argument reportedly broke out, leading to Shakti slapping Rahul, who retaliated by striking Shakti with a spoon.
Another injured individual, Shravan, told police that the fight was initially brought under control. However, Shakti allegedly called Sonu Banjara and summoned several accomplices. Police confirmed that Shakti was also injured and is currently receiving treatment. A number of suspects, including Arpit, Mohan Bana, and Sonu Banjara, remain at large.
The Chimanganj police are investigating the underlying rivalry, the immediate cause of the violence, and the roles of those involved. SHOs Vivek Kanodia stated, “We are examining all aspects of the incident, including motives and the involvement of each suspect. Appropriate action will be taken based on the evidence.”
