Jammu, August 26: Jammu and Kashmir police have apprehended a rape suspect who had been evading capture for seven years. The accused had escaped from police custody in 2019 and had been on the run since then.
Authorities identified the arrested individual as Tauseef Ahmed, a resident of Reasi district. He was wanted in connection with a case involving the abduction and rape of a woman.
According to police officials, a long-term search operation was underway in the Jammu region to locate the suspect. After extensive investigation and continuous surveillance, the police team was able to track him down and arrest him in Jammu.
Following his escape from custody, Tauseef Ahmed reportedly adopted various methods to conceal his identity. He was allegedly using a fake identity card under the name ‘Mohammad Sahil’ to evade police attention.
Officials stated that after a thorough investigation, they obtained crucial information regarding his activities and whereabouts, which led to his arrest. Meanwhile, the police are also searching for two other fugitives who escaped from Srinagar Central Jail.
On August 23, two inmates accused of sexual offenses against minors managed to flee from the jail. The first suspect, Mukhtar Ahmed Gujjar, is a resident of Anantnag and faces serious charges, including those under the POCSO Act, registered at the Soura police station.
The second suspect, Farmaan Khan, is wanted in a case registered at the Lar police station and is also facing charges under the POCSO Act and other criminal offenses.
Jammu and Kashmir police have issued official lookout notices for both fugitives. They have urged the public to contact the nearest police station or call 112 if they have any information regarding their whereabouts.
The police confirmed that a comprehensive operation is ongoing to locate both suspects, and efforts to apprehend them are being intensified.
